The Walnut Hill Community Association (WHCA), rooted in the historic Walnut Hill neighborhood in West Philadelphia, works to preserve the area’s rich history, foster community growth, and ensure that every resident feels heard and valued. Over the years, WHCA has launched numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing community life, from neighborhood clean-ups, cultural festivals, and educational programs, to platforms that stimulate local economic growth.
Founded in 1961, the association was formed by concerned residents, led by Charles Campbell Sr., who took action to create a united community for the betterment of its people and surroundings. Over the years, WHCA has been known for advocating for infrastructural improvements, supporting the preservation of the area’s rich architectural heritage, and organizing community-centric events that celebrate the diverse residents. WHCA is at the forefront of positive change and committed to honoring the legacy of Walnut Hill with the area’s contemporary needs and aspirations.
WHCA hired Creative Repute to create a brochure design that would embody the spirit of the association, celebrate the area’s rich history, and inspire residents to become a member of the association and actively engage in community initiatives.
How does brochure design benefit community organizations?
From the outset, we realized the need to resonate with a diverse demographic – from the elderly who’ve been long-standing residents of Walnut Hill, cherishing its history, to the younger generation, in a position to shape its future. This understanding became the cornerstone of our content and design strategy.
One standout feature we incorporated was a cutoff panel membership form. This segment added another level of engagement, with instructions for new members to bring their filled-out membership form from the brochure to one of the upcoming community meetings along with their membership dues. Additionally, another section of the design neatly listed ten neighborhood resources, encouraging the likelihood that those who view the brochure would hold on to it in order to reference the resources over time.
Incorporating feedback from the WHCA, we meticulously organized content, ensuring a logical flow of information and a layout that would draw in those who read it. Photos of community members and graphics that displayed the neighborhood boundaries that surround Walnut Hill added a relatability to viewers.
The culmination of our partnership with the Walnut Hill Community Association resulted in a brochure design that serves as a strong informational and promotional tool and represents WHCA’s enduring commitment to its community. Articulating the association’s mission and showcasing its initiatives, the brochure serves as a beacon, drawing residents into the heart of their neighborhood’s shared vision.
Through meticulously curated content and harmonious design elements, the brochure reaches out to the diverse demographic of Walnut Hill; from long-time residents cherishing memories to newcomers seeking to forge a path forward. Crafted to bridge the past with the present, and enlighten those unfamiliar with WHCA’s legacy, it tangibly furthers the Walnut Hill Community Association’s mission of unity, heritage, and progress.
