Mural Arts Philadelphia (MAP) is the nation’s largest public art program. It is also one of the most influential community-driven art organizations in the United States. Founded over 40 years ago by Executive Director Jane Golden, the organization has transformed Philadelphia into the “Mural Capital of the World.” As a result, the city is now recognized internationally for its public art leadership.
Nile Livingston’s relationship with Mural Arts Philadelphia began more than 20 years ago, when she first connected with founder Jane Golden as a high school student exploring career development opportunities. What started with designing and painting murals, participating in workshops, and eventually mentoring other students evolved into a long-standing collaboration with the organization. When Nile founded Creative Repute in 2017, that early connection matured. Creative Repute has since aligned its design and web development expertise with Mural Arts Philadelphia’s four decades of civic impact. Our work has included visual identity development, campaign strategy, and digital storytelling initiatives that elevate community voices. In addition, we have supported brand strategy efforts that amplify programs and deepen engagement across Philadelphia.
The MAP program produces between 50 and 100 public art projects every year. It injects approximately $2.7 million into Philadelphia’s creative economy annually. Furthermore, the organization partners with over 150 groups each year. More than 15,000 residents and visitors join guided tours of the outdoor mural gallery.
Key programs at MAP include:
Creative Repute contributed design work across several high-profile initiatives. These include the Mural Honoring Unk P on Ridge Avenue, the “Finally on 13th” mural in the Gayborhood, and book cover design and print layout for the program’s educational iniatives.
Jane Golden founded the organization and continues to serve as Executive Director. She guided its growth from a small anti-graffiti initiative into a globally recognized public art institution. In addition, a volunteer Board of Directors governs the program. Board members include leaders from banking, law, architecture, philanthropy, and entertainment.
Public art programs like this one create lasting social, economic, and cultural benefits. For example, large-scale mural projects increase foot traffic and attract tourism. They also stimulate local economic growth while providing jobs for artists. Furthermore, community-based art initiatives strengthen neighborhood identity and promote mental health.
As a result, Mural Arts Philadelphia demonstrates that participatory public art is a proven strategy for advancing equity and civic pride. Creative Repute is proud to support this mission through strategic design, marketing services, and public art collaborations with MAP. Learn more about this partner at muralarts.org.
