Contract Based Role

This is project-based contract work, not a full-time position. You'll be expected to check in daily, respond quickly to the project management team and clients, and flag blockers early rather than let them become delays.

Responsibilities
- Review project requirements and scope before development begins
- Collaborate with the project management and design teams to define technical requirements and expectations
- Build websites from scratch or customize templates based on project needs
- Consult with designers and strategists early in the process to identify potential blockers and ensure development considerations are clearly communicated to the design team
- Recommend and help clients select the right platform, template, and plugin or integration stack for their goals
- Set up and maintain staging environments for development
- Develop core website functionality and share regular progress updates with the internal team
- Ensure design consistency and responsiveness across all devices and browsers
- Test plugins, integrations, and features for performance, and troubleshoot issues during development
- Optimize sites for search visibility, including SEO and GEO (generative engine optimization) best practices, as well as loading speed
- Monitor post-launch performance, address bugs, and provide ongoing support
Qualifications
- Proven web development experience with a strong portfolio of completed websites or applications
- Extensive experience with WordPress, REQUIRED; experience with other CMS platforms a plus
- Experience developing custom themes and plugins
- Strong understanding of web optimization techniques for load time and user experience
- Strong understanding of web accessibility guidelines (WCAG)
- Working knowledge of SEO and GEO (generative engine optimization) best practices, and how to build sites that perform well in both traditional and AI-driven search
- Strong problem-solving skills for efficient debugging and troubleshooting
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to clients and non-technical teammates
- Experience working with APIs and third-party integrations
- Experience with responsive, mobile-first design
- 2-5 years of hands-on development experience
- Strong time management and the ability to work within a defined scope of work and deadline
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good to have:
- Experience with Laravel and Svelte.
- Experience conducting accessibility (WCAG) checks.
Compensation
Projects operate on both flat-rate agreements and hourly engagements, depending on the project. Rate is set per project based on complexity, timeline, and the developer's experience level, with opportunities for rate growth as the working relationship develops.
