Land Based Jawns is an organization that centers Black women’s empowerment through agricultural education, self-defense training, carpentry, and wellness practices. Rooted in ancestral knowledge and the teachings from Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower, their mission is to equip Black women with the skills and knowledge to survive, heal, and thrive in a world shaped by systemic oppression. Their work emphasizes community healing, agricultural self-sufficiency, and spiritual wellness, all aimed at addressing historical trauma and fostering collective liberation.

The Challenge

Creative Repute partnered with Land Based Jawns to develop a comprehensive visual identity and website that supports the organization’s mission while resonating with its target audience. Our goal was to ensure that the website design and brand development not only reflects the essence of their work but also effectively communicates their vision through various touchpoints, both digital and print.

Our Approach

Our design process was rooted in a collaborative and strategic approach, which allowed us to deeply understand Land Based Jawns’ values, goals, and the communities they serve. This insight informed every aspect of our creative direction, ensuring the final brand assets were authentic, meaningful, and aligned with their core mission.

1. Discovery & Brand Strategy
   We began by conducting a thorough discovery phase to understand the cultural, spiritual, and practical aspects of Land Based Jawns‘ work. Through in-depth conversations with the organization’s founder and stakeholders, we gathered key insights into their target audience, the mission’s emotional resonance, and how the organization differentiates itself from other community-focused entities.

2. Creative Direction & Conceptualization
   With these insights in mind, we crafted an overarching creative strategy that reflected Land Based Jawns‘ deep connection to the land, their focus on healing, and their commitment to empowering Black women. The concept development included logo design, color palette exploration, typography selection, and visual language, all of which were iterated upon in close collaboration with the client.

3. Execution & Brand System Development
   Once the concept was approved, we proceeded with the execution of the visual identity system. Our work included the design and development of the following key deliverables:

   • Logo Design: A custom logo that embodies the brand’s mission and values, reflecting both the organic, grounded nature of their work and the empowerment of Black women. The logo was designed to be versatile across various media and touchpoints.

   • Color Palette: A curated color scheme utilizing Yellow Citrine, Kunzite Purple, Emerald Green, and Jade Green. These colors symbolize optimism, spiritual growth, emotional healing, and abundance, aligning with the brand’s focus on cultivating well-being and strength.

   • Typography: We selected a mix of Raleway and Roboto fonts for their modern, clean aesthetic, and their ability to function across both digital and print platforms. These fonts are approachable yet professional, ensuring the brand remains versatile across different media.

   • Social Media Templates: We designed templates for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter (X), providing Land Based Jawns with a consistent and cohesive visual language for their online presence. These templates were optimized for engagement and included customizable features to promote upcoming workshops, share community stories, and educate their followers.

   • Promotional Flyers & Event Materials: A set of promotional flyers designed to communicate the essence of Land Based Jawns’ Earthseed Workshop Series and other community events. These materials were created to effectively convey the workshops’ educational content, while remaining visually aligned with the organization’s core values of healing and empowerment.

   • Style Guide: A comprehensive style guide that documents the visual identity system, ensuring that the brand can be implemented consistently across all communication channels and collateral, whether in digital formats or physical print.

4. Launch & Support
   Upon completion of the brand assets, we supported Land Based Jawns in the implementation of the new design across all platforms. Our team ensured that all digital and print materials were optimized and ready for distribution, while also providing guidance on how to maintain brand consistency moving forward.

Land Based Jawns: Website Design and Brand Development

In addition to crafting a cohesive visual identity for Land Based Jawns, Creative Repute also took charge of the organization’s website design and development. This was an essential part of ensuring that their brand’s message could be communicated effectively across digital platforms. The website serves as a key touchpoint for their community outreach, providing easy access to resources, program information, and events while staying true to the organization’s core values.

Our ongoing partnership has included monthly website maintenance and SEO optimization, making sure the site stays up-to-date, performs smoothly, and ranks well in search engines.

Strategy & Approach to Website Design and Development

The main goal of the website was to provide a user-friendly experience that not only reflected the ethos of Land Based Jawns but also served as an engaging platform for their community. We needed to ensure the website was informative, visually compelling, and easy to navigate, while also keeping it simple enough for the team to manage.

Our approach involved building a responsive, mobile-first website that would evolve with the organization’s needs. We prioritized a strong content management system (CMS) to make it easier for the team to update information regularly, ensuring they had full control over their digital presence.

1. Custom Website Design & Development:
   The website design took inspiration from Land Based Jawns’ brand identity, including the selected color palette and imagery. We built the site on WordPress using Elementor to provide flexibility in layout and content management. Key features included:

   • A dynamic About Page that showcases the team and mission.

   • An Offerings Page to highlight workshops and services.

   • Program Partners section, which can be easily updated as new partners are introduced.

   • Integration of a contact form, ensuring seamless communication with the community.

2. Ongoing Website Maintenance Plan:
   To ensure the website remains in peak condition, Creative Repute provided a monthly website maintenance service. This included:

   • Plugin and theme updates to ensure compatibility with the latest WordPress releases.

   • Regular backups and remote storage to prevent data loss.

   • Troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues, such as admin login or layout inconsistencies.

   For instance, when we discovered an error caused by an outdated Elementor Pro plugin, we resolved the issue and ensured the site was fully operational.

3. SEO Optimization:
   We implemented an SEO strategy aimed at improving Land Based Jawns’ visibility across search engines. Our work included:

   • Optimizing on-page SEO elements, such as headings, meta descriptions, and alt text for images.

   • Ensuring the site was indexed correctly by Google and other search engines.

   • Regular SEO audits to refine strategies and improve organic traffic.

4. Content Updates & Support:
   Throughout our partnership, we worked closely with Land Based Jawns to ensure that the website’s content stayed fresh and relevant. Some of the updates we handled included:

   • Adding new team members to the About Page.

   • Updating program and partner information with photos and descriptions.

   • Providing video tutorials for the team to update content independently.

   Additionally, we worked on removing outdated events from the offerings page and made design adjustments as new content was added.

5. Monthly Progress Reports:
   As part of our ongoing relationship, we provided weekly and monthly progress reports outlining tasks completed, updates made, and the next steps for ongoing improvements. This helped Land Based Jawns stay informed and on top of their site’s development.
